Holman Family Reunion in Lake City

Steven, my cousin, had jumped in and swam in the water below the water fall. Freezing, freezing water!! But that was an invitation for Quinton and Zach to do the same! Here they are posing in front of an old dam. But as you can tell they are all wet and cold from their swim earlier. The pictures below are of the water fall before the swim and of their cold dip!

Flaming Gorge - A very fun year!

The best part of the effort - for a nine year old!

A Pretty setting to relax and fish

The Flaming Gorge

Traditional Ride to Lucern Marina

Quinton took a class about ancient Indian writings and then went into the Museum to rough up the bear.

Jamie, Quinton and I went on a bike ride from Red Canyon Lookout point along the Rim Trail (?). About half way I went back and then the boys called for me to come get them when they reached the end - it was fun even though I was out of shape.

We took a tour of the old Swett homestead. Here is Quinton in front of their place and on their old farm equipment. Wow! We have it good, I can't imagine doing what they did!

Fourth of July 2009

On the fourth of July, we drove from John's cabin up over the mountain and then down into Lake City. It was a very pretty drive. Quinton and I went back over the 24th and stayed right next to Lake San Cristabal shown here in the background. This view is out of Lake City and on our way up to Slum Gullion (sp?) where Grandma and Grandpa Holman's land is. Here is Zach, Sandy, Dad, Quinton and John.

Here is Grandma and Grandpa's cabin. I remember having a great time here when I was a girl. I stayed here - whether in the cabin or not I cannot remember, but I remember being here and making lunch and playing games inside, but also playing for hours and hours or maybe days and days outside and all around here.

From Slum Gullion we drove down through Powderhorn - that is a cool community. From there we drove to Gunnison to watch the fireworks! It was very different than the firework show in Ouray. Ouray is in a pocket of mountains and the sound echos up and down the mountain. But in Gunnison, everything was spread out and had a very spacious, sprawling feeling. We were in a large park and it was spectacular! Here is Dad, Codi, Whitney and Tula watching the fireworks. Below is Zach and Quinton enthralled in the fireworks - there were some very unique ones I had never seen before.

I have been inspired by Whitney's diligent blogging. I guess I love the idea of being able to have it printed in the end!

At the beginning of June I spent a week at "Woodbadge", a scout leadership training course. It was held at the Schofield Boy Scout Camp. Although, at first I wondered what I was getting myself into, it turned out to be a very good experience. I am definitely sold on the Boy Scouting program - when it is administered in the right way!
